Heroin / Opioids

Heroin is an opioid used as a recreational drug for its euphoric effects. It is typically injected, usually into a vein, but it can also be smoked, snorted, or inhaled. Opioids are substances that, when reaching opioid receptors, have effects similar to those of morphine. Medically they are primarily used for pain relief, including anesthesia. Other medical uses include replacement therapy for opioid use disorder, reversing opioid overdose, and suppressing a cough. Opioids are frequently used non-medically for their euphoric effects or to prevent withdrawal.
