The Gospel According to Mr. Allen

Famed for its trash-talking staff, as well as for its gospel choir, the Addict's Rehabilitation Center in Harlem has set a high standard in substance abuse treatment for more than four decades, and was New York State's first residential treatment center for addicts without money. Under James Allen, its founder, the staff struggles to give addicts a sense of hope and dignity.

The video focuses on three particular addicts--Peter, Michelle and Brett--during several months at ARC, where they have come to get help in breaking the harsh grip of their drug habits. Peter wants to stay out of jail. Michelle wants her children back. And Brett strives to stay clean for his promising recording career.

Absorbing and gritty, we watch as they battle against poverty, hopelessness and addiction. Will they win? Their stories will surprise you.
